mike-henry-goatmanMike, affectionately known as “Henry”, followed his older brother Peter, and attended QEH from 1956 to 1962.
He represented the school at rugby, cricket and athletics from under 15s to the first teams – receiving ‘colours’ in all three. 1962 was a busy year for Mike. He was made Carrs’ house captain, won the Blake Cup (Sportsman of the Year) and won the Throwing Events Champion cup.
Mike also represented the Bristol Public and Grammar schools team at both rugby and cricket.
After leaving school he qualified as an Optician in the family business on The Triangle just up the road from School.
He joined the Old Elizabethans’ Rugby and Cricket clubs and played until the age of 40. He was captain of the rugby club in 1973 and served on the committee as Secretary, Match Secretary, Chairman and President during his time with the club.
As a father of two, grandfather of five and great grandfather of one, he no longer participates in these sporting activities but he does teach Ballroom and Latin American dance for which he qualified about 30 years ago.
He lived in Bristol until seven years ago and now he and his wife (Jenny) live in Malvern.
