All members of the Society are automatically members of the Society’s Charity, Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital Old Boys’ Society Benevolent Fund, registered Charity number 1072306. The objects of the charity are as follows:
a) Relief of poverty by grants to old boys of QEH and their dependents in case of need, or bursaries and grants to individual boys at QEH, or on leaving QEH, when need arises
b) Advancement of education through the support of QEH in particular through the provision of :
i) bursaries, prizes and other grants to individual boys at , or leaving, QEH
ii) Such funds for specific projects of a charitable nature as the Trustee Committee may from time to time determine
The Benevolent Fund is administered separately by a Trustee Committee in accordance with its Constitution, such Committee being elected annually at the AGM of the Charity, normally held at the same time as the Society’s AGM.
The Trustee Committee liaises closely with the school to determine boys needing assistance within the objects of the charity, but does rely on third parties to advise whether there may be old boys and their dependants who might need help. Whilst all requests for assistance are sympathetically considered by the Trustee Committee, they are limited by the amount of funds available and therefore the Benevolent Fund is always grateful to receive contributions from old boys, their relatives and third parties, whether by way of lifetime gift or a bequest in a will. Any person or body wishing to establish a gift for a specific purpose should first contact the Society’s Treasurer to discuss the matter.
