Fred Lowry (1938-1945)
Dad died on 15 March 2016 after a short illness.
His great love was teaching and after graduating from Bristol University with a BA in Geography he began his teaching career. He met my mother on a Geography teachers field trip to Spain.
He loved Rugby and cricket all his life and played for Bristol Rugby as well as becoming an MCC qualified cricket coach. He played cricket well into his 60s.
Teaching moved him from place to place geographically and he taught in Bristol, Birmingham, London, Ramsgate and Southampton. His first headship was at St George’s in Ramsgate where he became one of the youngest headmasters in the country.
In 1972 he was appointed head at Millbrook Comprehensive in Southampton. He was headmaster there until he retired. He loved teaching and contributed to the development of education policy in Hampshire.
